So everyone can see the amazing visual work in this game, which I am also floored by, but specifically I want to call out the colors! Creating a cohesive, communicative and pleasing color palette is difficult and this game absolutely NAILS it. Wonderful portraits, as people have already mentioned, and charming sprite work. Just so enjoyable to look at and be a part of that world.

Co-signing--accessibility work and bug fixes are definitely always mid-jam acceptable patches! I can't use non-toggle sprints without lasting effects, so along with stuff like flashing lights, subtitles, etc, those kinds of accessibility options make games playable for more people and are always a-okay to add :)
SPOILERS FOR GAME SECRETS BELOW!
In order:
- Sin City, Frank Miller
- My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
- Fallout 4
- the setting of the Imperial Radch, but specifically a planet seen in the book Provenance, from Ann Leckie
Good eye on the middle two! Glad they were comprehensible. I didn't expect the last one to be anything anyone knows, that was just a present to myself.
I read the whole thing and thank YOU for being so awesome and fun to work with and providing such fantastic designs to work from! You honestly made it super easy to do the work, the best possible kind of client <3 Hope we can work together again in the future and thanks for the cool info on behind-the-scenes stuff--psyched to see what you might make in the future :)
Had a blast working with chvage and littlekittenbit, their work truly elevated this game and they're both wonderful and incredibly talented people.
[messy crying] no YOU are!!! It was a total delight working together and I'd be happy to team up again sometime, hopefully when I'm not multitasking with classes *and* illness *and* broken computers, haha
You did so great!!! Hope you can pat yourself on the back and treat yourself to a milkshake or something (I don't know why milkshake is where my brain went)
Hey! I'm likely not to have any classes this summer, and I'd really love a project that's more than me grinding my head against my own concepts. Is anyone interested in trying to figure out a small-scope game to work on over the summer? Figured this was a decent place to put some feelers out.
Edited because duh, here's what I'm proficient in: writing, editing, story/narrative work, comics, some drawing and visual design , and tons of experience working with groups in project management. Writing/story craft is definitely my longest and most honed skill but I am willing to try anything once. o7
I love this game a lot, and I know you & Barrelbot said you didn't want to send it in as a late entrant, but maybe you could ask Kyle to send you that URL like a day before ratings close or something just so you could be immortalized in the lineup? It really is a lovely game and a wonderful contribution to the jam. So glad we got to see it, and Frump's right, perfect way to close out the jam. <3
Story being part of it was huge for me, since story is my top thing and where my strengths are clustered. But I'm not a programmer at all, so I'm pretty limited in what I can contribute to most game jams anyway.
I don't mind letting people continue to update their games after the submission deadline--I think it's good sportsmanship not to count on that, but it's not like there's a ton of time to add huge stuff after that anyway. And generally, because the stakes to this are so low, I think that kind of flexibility is a huge asset, especially since for so many people contributing this is/was their first game jam (or first game at all!).
A month was definitely tons less time than it sounded, but we had a team of four where most of us have some kind of full-time engagement (work, school). So a month wasn't really a month. But it was enough time for what it was.
I'm so blown away by what everyone made and how different each game is from the others--super cool to see just the different directions that exploded from this concept, and reaffirms my consistent belief that everyone should feel able to make art regardless of where you are on your journey, because it's all going to be different just by dint of who you are. Creative work is part of being human, no matter what form that creativity takes, and exercising that is part of being alive!
Can't wait for the next one. My life feels empty now. Feed me a project.
Dunno why that one's not working, try this: https://discord.gg/WgkRXmTZ
It's just a server where some buddies hang out and we have a section for game jam discussions. You'll need to use Discord since it's a Discord server, but you don't need anything special.
New link for the next week. https://discord.gg/etJbMg2x
Even if you're not looking to team up, people have been discussing their games and how they're working and honestly it's p inspiring
Hey everyone, the Don't Call Us Daddies server has a section set up for the game jam! You can discuss it, look for a team, etc. Just a possible resource if people are looking for ways to link with other people! https://discord.gg/an4mb4S7 This link should be good until the 12th, I can put up a new one if people are still looking to join after that point. Hope to see you there!
